Portrait du roi Philippe IV d'Espagne (Felipe IV). Il s'agit d'une copie d'une étude de la tête du roi Felipe IV faite par Velasquez qui est le dernier peint sur le vif. Cette copie datant du XIXeme est de très belle facture et réalisée sur carton, l'original étant exposé au musée du Prado à Madrid. Cette copie a plusieurs intérêts artistiques.

Tout d'abord l'uvre originale a été réalisée par l'artiste entre l'année 1653 et 1655 soit une dizaine d'année avant la mort de Felipe IV. Ce grand roi d'Espagne est plus connu pour incarner les défaites espagnoles et le déclin de l'empire d'Espagne que pour sa passion pour les arts: Il était l'un des plus grands collectionneurs d'Europe, notamment de tableaux parmis lesquels on retrouve de très grands noms comme Raphaël, Mantegna, Dürer, Le Titien... La dispersion de ses collection a rejoint pour part le musée du Prado en Espagne. Velasquez pour sa part fut l'un de peintres à l'origine de la renaissance des arts en Europe et a été appelé dès ses débuts d'artistes à la court du roi Felipe IV. La modernité de sa peinture pour l'époque lui valut d'être pris comme modèle par les impressionistes à la fin du XIXeme/ début XXeme. Il s'inscrit dans le courant baroque, avec un travail caractéristique sur l'ombre et la lumière que l'on retrouve chez certains de ses pairs.

Enfin, cette copie nous rappelle que cette étude de Velasquez a été copié de nombreuses fois et on peut retrouver celle ci dans différentes galeries de part le monde, certaines réalisées par son atelier, d'autre postérieures. Cet ultime portrait du roi avait vocation a être diffusé pendant son reigne et à rappeler qu'il était le roi d'espagne. De plus, beaucoup de théories sur l'interprétation de l'expression du roi dans cette étude ont été échafaudées, notamment sur la bienveillance et la mélancolie du roi vers la fin de sa vie.

Cette huile sur carton du XIXeme en très bon état a subi quelques restaurations anciennes sans altération de la qualité de l'oeuvre. Il s'agit d'une copie anonyme. Présenté dans son cadre d'époque doré florentin (usures). Dimensions totales de l'objet: 4154 cm.

In addition, many theories on the interpretation of the kings expression in this study have been framed, particularly on the benevolence and melancholy of the king towards the end of his life. This oil on cardboard of the XIXth in very good condition has undergone some old restorations without alteration of the quality of the work.
